Talking Tariffs with CSC…

Tariff update August 6 2025

Adding on to our last week update

Starting tomorrow, August 7, 2025, the new tariff rates go into effect. It is overall an increase from the 10% that went into place earlier this year for most countries. These tariffs are immediate as the containers arrive at the port; the container may have left weeks ago under a different situation, but is subject to the new tariff when it arrives.

As mentioned, we are focused on a few heavy textile-producing countries. These are their current impacts:

Vietnam               20%

Other specific situations:

  • India is also facing a much heavier tariff due to its relationships with Russia and Venezuela, an additional 25%, giving them a 50% rate.
  • USMCA (NAFTA) appears to be still in effect.
    • Canada is looking at 35% tariffs on their products, with higher tariffs on specific products like copper. Canada has a reciprocal tariff applied, so it appears we are in somewhat of a Canadian trade war at this point.
    • Mexico is looking at higher tariffs on its products, but it has been put on hold for 90 days as both countries negotiate. There is quite a bit of textile manufacturing in Mexico, but most of it qualifies as a USMCA product and continues to flow duty/tariff-free. 
  • China tariffs sit around 30% with many exceptions. This deal runs out on August 12, 2025. If an agreement is not reached, it is expected that Tariffs will rise by an additional 34%. In Stockholm earlier this month, there was an agreement to have a 90-day extension to talks; it is on Trump's desk awaiting approval.
  • Brazil is also facing many additional tariffs, which have not had a direct impact on our industry, but some global inflation could be involved.

Supplier updates:

  • Calderon has announced a price increase for September 1, 2025

I assume there will be other requests for price changes in the near future; they all have to evaluate the actual impact on their Global Supply Chain strategies.
